Weak magnetic fields and cognitive activity

Abstract

The influence of natural level of uniform magnetic field (to 200 μT) on Wistar rat cognition was studied in this work. It was found that influence of disturbed Earth magnetic field has caused a long depression of explorative activity only in the presence of information loading. Such depression was removed only after short external stimulation. After this stimulation rats were able to learn by themselves and it took them twice less time than in the control (nootropic effect). It is suggested that a weak magnetic field disturbances may be considered as a negative psychogenic factor which distorts normal conditions for cognitive activity.
