Abstract
Viral infections of the central nervous system have traditionally been associated with acute inflammatory diseases such as meningitis, encephalomyelitis and poliomyelitis. However, during the past two decades viral infections of man or animals have also been related to chronic inflammatory encephalitis, malformations, tumors, degenerative and demyelinating diseases, and vascular disease of the brain and spinal cord. A survey is presented.
