Abstract

The fundamental goal of vertebral augmentation procedures is to stabilize and improve compressive strength of vertebral body through the safe injection of a stabilizing material. This can be achieved by both vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. Vertebral augmentation is a safe and effective, minimally invasive treatment primarily for patients suffering from back pain associated with a vertebral compression fracture caused by osteoporosis, tumor invasion, or hemangioma.
