Abstract

Vapor and liquid equilibrium compositions have been measured for binary mixtures of methanol with naphthalene, 1-methylnaphthalene, tetralin, quinoline, and 1-naphthol. Pressure versus composition isotherms have been obtained at approximately 248, 276 and 307 degree C at pressures ranging from approximately 200 psi to the respective mixture critical pressures. The effect of the physical properties of the aromatic compounds on the observed phase behavior is discussed, and the Peng-Robinson equation of state is used to correlate the experimental data.
