Abstract

The continuing improvements in the treatment of traumatic carotid-cavernous fistulas with the detachable-balloon technique prove that it is a very delicate method which should be done only in medical centers where interventional neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, and neurosurgical ophthalmologists develop a team effort and offer the best alternative of treatment adapted to each particular case. TCCFs are rare, and the needed experience in these centers can be derived only from a large number of referrals.
