Abstract

This chapter covers transposition of the great arteries (TGA), starting with embryologic and anatomic considerations, physiology, and clinical presentation, then covering medical and surgical management, results and analysis, arterial switch and ventricular septal defect (VSD) closure for TGA and VSD, staged repair of TGA with intact ventricular septum, arterial switch operation for double-outlet right ventricle and subpulmonary ventricular septal defect (Taussig-Bing anomaly), staged arterial switch operation for right ventricular failure after the atrial baffle procedure, complications following the arterial switch operation, TGA-VSD-coarctation/interrupted aortic arch.
