Abstract

This chapter will go over tracheostomy care, both for the fresh tracheostomy and also for patient teaching for home. The importance of tracheostomy care cannot be over emphasized, and this chapter will be dedicated to discussion of the types and sizing of tracheostomies available, the parts of the tracheostomy and how these devices and tubes should be managed. The second half of the chapter will go over the potential complications associated with tracheostomy placement, both 1) immediate and 2) delayed post operatively.
