Abstract
Model-based rapid microorganism identification techniques were studied for matrix-assisted laser deposition/ionization (MALDI)-time-of-flight (TOF)-mass spectrometry (MS). The model used for classification treats cells as bags of ribosomal proteins. Bonferroni correction was used to correct the threshold p-value for the number of microorganisms. A set of nine microorganisms with a wide range of known ribosomal proteins was cultured using standard protocols appropriate for each microorganism.
