Abstract

An elastomeric terpolymer of butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and methacrylamide was synthesized by emulsion polymerization using an anionic sufactant. The latex terpolymer particles where shown to have a negative charge and the solid terpolymer was negatively charged with respect to Ringer's solution. Caval rings prepared from the latex and properly post treated and cured remained patent after implantation in the inferior vena cava of dogs through a 2 week period, thus demonstrating significant thromboresistance.
