Abstract

The commercially available 3D imaging systems are undergoing a rapid evolution with the result being more user-friendly systems with ever increasing imaging capabilities. Fortunately, these advances are being coupled with a decrease in price due to an increasingly competitive market and a general price decrease in computer components. The growing recognition of the limitations of reconstruction techniques using thresholding will stimulate further research into the development of new imaging algorithms. Only through cooperative research efforts between radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and the industry will the truly optimal 3D imaging system be developed.
