Abstract

The technique of thin-layer chromatography on PEI-cellulose is useful in facilitating radiactive assay of ATP-ADP exchange, ATP-Pi exchange, adenylate kinase, and nucleoside disphosphokinase activities of mitochondria. In all assays the technique is used to separate nucleotide components after the enzymatic reaction has been terminated. The technique is also used to separate Pi from nucleotides. Solvent systems that are useful in the phosphotransferase assays described here are summarized in Table I.
