Abstract
Present electrocardiographic monitoring techniques used to detect cardiac arrhythmias do not permit quantitation of the disorder of cardiac rhythm. Arrhythmias were studied by making a histogram of the R-R intervals from electrocardiographic recordings. Automatic data processing equipment has been developed to make possible the preparation of histograms from records obtained over long periods of time. The technique promises to be useful in research to quantitate the responses of the heart rate and rhythm to physiological and pharmacological interventions.
