Abstract

The authors describe a novel technique for removing the polyethylene (PE) liner during revision total hip arthroplasty. The PE liner is popped out using a tapered, threaded Schanz pin. The pin is threaded through the plastic, and the PE is dislodged as the tip of the pin abuts the metal. This technique allows easy removal without the force generated by osteotomes and other means that are more traumatic.
