Abstract

Purpose: To observe the effect of rhGH in the rehabilitation of rabbit corneal ulcer. Design: Radomized, controlled experimental study. Participants: 40 exp erimental melanin rabbits. Methods: Forty rabbits were radomly divided into four groups (10 rabbits for each group), that was high concentration 4 IU/ml rhGH group, low concontration 2 IU/ml rhGH group, Recombinant human (bovine) basic fibroblast group(positive control group), and NS group (negative control group). 0.1 mm depth sterile corneal ulcer was made in the center of right eye of all rabbit with 5 mm diameter trephine, Tobrex was usroup). ed three times per day postoperatively. 4 IU/ml rhGH was used in the high concentration rhGH group, and 2 IU/ml rhGH was used in the low concentration rhGH group. Recombinant human (bovine) basic fibroblast was used in the positive control group, and 0.9%NS was used in the negative control group. All medication was used three times per day and continued for 28 days. Main outcome measures: The rehabilitation of corneal ulcer of four group rabbits was observed and documented. Results: rhGH had prominent facilitation effect of rehabilitation in corneal epithelium and superficial stroma, not only the heal up time of corneal ulcer were marked shortened in the high concentration rhGH group and the low concentration rhGH group compared with the negative control group, but also the high concentration rhGH group had better results in facilitation of ulcer healing and prohibition of ulcer recurrence compared with recombinant human (bovine) basic fibroblast which had affirmattery curative effect. Conclusion: rhGH has marked facilitation effect in the healing course of rabbit's corneal ulcer.
