Abstract

The spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic to children has become one of the most serious public health problems in the United States. This article presents the clinician with an overview of the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS among infants and children, discusses major issues about the prevention of perinatal HIV transmission (including ZDV prophylaxis), and presents the management and treatment issues of HIV infection among children.
