Abstract

Studies with Qβ RNA confirm Kamen's finding, with R17 RNA, that the terminal adenylate is not necessary for infectivity. It is now demonstrated that the in vitro template activity of Qβ RNA is not destroyed by removal of the adenylate and a scheme is put forward to account for the presence of 3′-terminal adenosine in the product of replication.
