Abstract

This case report describes a patient with acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) who, at the height of her severe illness, had the scintigraphic pattern of diffuse lung uptake on a Tc-99m sulfur colloid (SC) liver-spleen scan. The lung uptake completely resolved on a follow-up scan after her recovery. This case report and a review of the literature suggest that Tc-99m SC lung uptake is a manifestation of serious underlying disease of various causes. However, the prognosis is dependent on the nature of the underlying disease process and the patient's subsequent clinical course.
