Abstract

The syntheses of several tetrazolium salts are described. These include (1) an improved method for preparing the di-tetrazolium salt, Nitro-BT, (2) three iodo-5-phenyl-substituted analogs of Nitro-BT for possible use in electron microscopy and (3) five analogs of 2-P-nitrophenyl substituted monotetrazolium salts which contain 3-phenyl substituents of varying degrees of electronegativity for a study of their ability to act as electron acceptors with various dehydrogenases. Preliminary experiments with electron microscopy are given and the biochemical results with four dehydrogenases are summarized.
