Survivorship

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

In performing definitive resection, the surgeon has carried a patient well up onto the survival curve by ridding her body of the source of the disease. Additional treatment after surgery has, hopefully, lifted her even higher up on that survival curve. At this point, the breast surgeon may feel that his or her responsibilities are basically over, but for the patient the journey has just begun. Understanding the long-term issues that patients face is important for each and every health care provider who has been involved with her care.
