Abstract

The LAST definition of superficially invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva conforms to the American Joint Committee on Cancer T1a (FIGO [International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics] 1A) staging, delineating a subset of early invasive lesions with minimal risk of lymph node metastasis. The diagnosis can be difficult to make histopathologically. A case of unexpected early multifocal invasion is presented that highlights the difficulties in the diagnosis of superficially invasive squamous cell carcinoma and FIGO 1A of the vulva.
