Abstract

The case of a 55-year-old man with severe spasm of the upper and lower eyelids is presented. The differential diagnosis of essential blepharospasm is discussed, as are the various treatment modalities. The importance of careful ophthalmic and neurological examination is emphasized, as, in some instances, blepharospasm is associated with basal ganglia dysfunction.
