Abstract
A net absorption of sodium was observed under control conditions in whole trachea. Luminal amiloride inhibited the net absorption of sodium. Luminal amiloride inhibited the transepithelial potential difference across the isolated trachea. Submucosal ouabain inhibited the net absorption of sodium. Submucosal ouabain inhibited the transepithelial potential difference across the isolated trachea. Short-circuited flat sheets of trachea manifested a net absorption of sodium. Serosal ouabain inhibited short-circuit current and net sodium flux across isolated flat sheets of trachea.
