Abstract

Zone electrophoresis in starch of a water extract of low ragweed pollen resulted in 7 Folin reacting and 8 ninhydrin reacting electrophoretic peaks. Direet skin testing of ragweed-sensitive individuals by electrophoretically separated fractions demonstrated the presence of at least 3 allergens in the whole extract. The large Folin peak was strongly reactive in every patient tested. Not every patient, however, was highly reactive to the other 2 active fractions, suggesting that sensitivity to each fraction is independent of sensitivity to the others.
