Abstract

Objectives: the Authors have organized an educational course for hospital pediatricians in order to provide practical guidelines and to show some manoeuvres useful for the most common pediatric emergencies. Methods: 40 medical doctors have attended the training. It has taken place in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Gemelli Hospital in Rome. The course has been divided in two sessions: a theoretical one, for clarifying the basic concepts of 30 emergency medicine topics, and a practical one aimed at simulating some manoeuvres for critical care with manikins. Evaluation multiple choice questions have been given to the participants at the end of the course. Results: questionary results have documented a significant improvement in participants' knowledge about emergency pediatrics. Conclusion: these data suggest that a theoretical and practical training can be an important means to improve the management of critical children.
