Abstract

Focal or tissue preserving therapy has become a topic of considerable interest among physicians treating patients with urologic malignancies. In August 2012, International HIFU, the international division of USHIFU, the manufacturer of the Sonablate® 500, sponsored a moderated roundtable session devoted to the subject of focal therapy for prostate cancer. The edited transcript of that discussion appears below. Participants were asked to respond to a series of general questions about focal therapy and they were encouraged to comment broadly on the concept of focal lesion diagnosis and treatment. The participants were asked their opinions regarding technologies currently available or in development that they envision may impact the evolution of the 'focal paradigm'.
