Abstract

Although many primary care physicians support the biopsychosocial model of health care in principle, many do not use it. Seventeen common beliefs which operate as specific resistances were uncovered. Awareness of these beliefs may help liaison psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in primary care settings to increase physician use of the biopsychosocial approach.
