Abstract

The authors present the design of a thromboelastograph, a machine that records the elasticity of coagulating blood. A measure of elasticity is obtained using a optical system that comprises a deflection mirror, a CCD array, and a rotating cylinder dipped in coagulating blood. The CCD array interfaces to a microprocessor-based display and recording system.
