Abstract
Solidification and melting of dilute 3He-4He mixtures (0.7%-4.0% 3He) at 0.45K-1.2K are investigated, utilizing a 10 MHz NMR imaging system. The spatial distribution of 3He, T1 and T2 relaxation times was mapped along the vertical direction of the experimental cell, perpendicular to the liquid-solid interface. We find that relaxation on the melting curve is considerably faster than at higher densities.
