Abstract
The DiaComp computerized diabetes management system is presented, which consists of an artificial intelligence advice engine integrated with a database management system and education module to provide decision support 24 h/d at a reasonable cost to the patient. The advice engine for DiaComp represents a hybrid design that uses elements of both decision analysis models and heuristic artificial intelligence techniques. It provides insulin dosage management, tracks clinical trends, generates patient management reports, offers patient education, provides a research database, and is predicted to reduce the cost of health care for its users.
