Abstract
Various practical economic effects of transformer selection over a range of efficiency levels at and above the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Class I levels are discussed. NEMA voluntary standards for transformers with medium-voltage primaries and secondary voltage of 600 and below are also discussed. Comparisons of NEMA Class I with standard-efficiency transformers and premium transformers are also presented. Some of the efficiency standards of NEMA Class I such as standard-efficiency liquid designs, premium-efficiency liquid designs and VPI/VPE 150°C standard designs are also studied.
