Abstract

Restoration of the nail plate and reconstruction of the nail bed should be part of any treatment algorithm for fingertip injuries. When possible, all structures should be reconstructed or replaced to deliver optimal aesthetic and functional result. When a child’s finger is crushed and the nail plate is injured, there is often an associated injury to the underlying nail bed. This chapter will discuss the various types of injuries that occur as well as their treatment options. Management of complications, including nail deformities (hook nail, raised nail, and split nail), will also be presented.
