Abstract
To the Editor: The recent announcement by the Centers for Disease Control that a fee would soon be charged for the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) and related publications was disappointing but not so unreasonable, considering trends in all other areas of medicine and the economy. The surprise is the amount: 55 to 90 per year (depending on whether it is mailed before or after publication and whether it is sent third or first class). This subscription cost is outrageous. It will dissuade many people from ordering the MMWR — people who will no longer get weekly reminders. . .
