Abstract
Mitochondria serve a number of critical functions in the cell, including generation of energy, production of oxygen radicals, and regulation of apoptosis. In this chapter, a brief review of clinically relevant mitochondrial biology is followed by a description of the diagnosis and therapeutic approach to diseases that affect this critical organelle.
