Abstract

To the Editor: I am wholeheartedly in agreement with the conclusions expressed in the Sounding Board by Drs. Bicknell and Windham (July 3 issue) concerning the hasty and probably ill-advised decision by the Office of Management and Budget to terminate several of our most important military medical-research units abroad. It may not be too late to heed their warning of tragic consequences. Naval Medical Research Unit No. 3 (NAMRU-3) in Egypt was not the first such unit to be established overseas. In 1944, NAMRU-2 was sent to the Pacific theater of World War II. A base of operations was established. . .
