Abstract
We report a case of malacoplakia presenting as a nonfunctioning kidney in the setting of previous stone disease and recurrent urinary tract infection. Complete mid ureteral obstruction, a rare result of malacoplakia, was documented by antegrade and retrograde pyelography and other imaging techniques. Nephroureterectomy revealed thick mucosal plaques in the renal pelvis and ureter with characteristic foamy histiocytes containing Michaelis-Gutmann bodies.
