Lymphoplasmapheresis in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract

To the Editor: The recent report by Wallace et al. (June 10 issue)1 on the effect of lymphoplasmapheresis in rheumatoid arthritis employed a well-controlled double-blind protocol. Unfortunately, interpretation of the results was at best rather impressionistic. Simply stated, the data showed that there was no significant difference in any assessment index between the sham and real lymphoplasmapheresis groups at the end of nine treatments. In order to make it appear that real differences existed, the data had to be manipulated. For example, there is no significant difference in the Ritchie Index joint scores between the two experimental groups at. . .
