Abstract

To evaluate lipoprotein(a) as an independent risk factor for ischemic heart disease, we studied 2,156 men, aged 47 to 76 years, in a population- based prospective study. Our results showed that although lipoprotein(a) was not an independent risk factor, the association of elevated lipoprotein(a) levels with elevated cholesterol was a risk factor for ischemic heart disease.
