Abstract
An intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was treated with a new multimodality treatment program which integrated low-dose adriamycin, 5-fluorouracil, the radiation sensitizer metronidazole, and liver irradiation (1750 rads) followed by iv administration of 47 millicuries of 131I-labeled carcinoembryonic antibody. A computerized axial tomographic scan taken after the external irradiation and drug combinations was unchanged from the pretreatment status. Following isotopic immunoglobulin treatment, significant clinical remission was documented by physical examination and a repeat computerized axial tomographic scan. During isotopic immunoglobulin treatment, sequential whole-body isotope scans revealed tumor localization and isotope persistence. This case report is reviewed because of the unique therapeutic regimen and the possibility of future exploration of isotopic immunotherapy in radiation oncology.
