Ischemic heart disease

In summary, multiple strategies have been advocated to reduce perioperative morbidity in patients with ischemic heart disease undergoing noncardiac surgery. The decision to perform preoperative cardiovascular testing must be based upon the value of the information obtained for both short-term management and long-term risk reduction. At the current time there does not appear to be one best anesthetic management technique, but perioperative β-adrenergic blockade does appear to have benefit. Future research should be directed at identifying the most cost-effective perioperative surveillance strategies.
