note = "Funding Information: In 2010, we and our colleagues at the City of Hope National Medical Center (Duarte, CA) received funding through a training grant (no. R25 CA132664) from the National Cancer Institute to support interdisciplinary professional education, which would prepare nurses and their colleagues to improve care for the true providers in cancer care–family caregivers. Through this project (“Improving Quality of Life and Quality of Care for Oncology Family Caregivers,” www.cityofhope.org/oncfamilycaregivers ) a curriculum was developed to be disseminated to 400 professionals from 200 cancer settings over four national conferences. Three of these conferences have been held, with a final course scheduled for 2013. At each conference participants hear the leading scholars and clinicians in this area present their research and receive guidance as they develop plans for implementing the knowledge into their practice setting. The course includes other key elements of quality improvement, systems change, and program development; participants are followed for 18 months so that we can monitor their challenges and successes in improving the quality of care for family caregivers.
