Abstract
The effect of Δ9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient of marihuana, on the testicular development of rats was studied in 48 Walter Reed rats assigned to three groups. Histologic examinations revealed arrest of spermatogenesis in two of the THC treated animals, with normal appearing spermatogenesis in all other animals. The two THC treated rats with arrested spermatogenesis had elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) values of 803 and 660 ng/ml, respectively.
