Abstract

In order to define more precisely the immunodeficiency that occurs following allogeneic BMT in man and to elucidate in more detail the events occurring during the period of immune system recovery, humoral and cellular immunity both in vivo and in vitro have been studied in the 25 patients at the center who survived 2 or more months following allogeneic BMT. An interesting combined immunodeficiency (CID) was observed. The kinetics of recovery from the CID showed a dissociation between the various lymphocyte surface markers, products, and functions that were measured.
