Abstract

Testosterone was identified in the sulfate fraction (TS) prepared from human plasma, and a method was devised for its measurement. The plasma concentration of TS in normal subjects was 108 ± 49 mμg/100 ml in nine males and 18 ± 7.5 in four females. Some of the low values obtained in females might be of doubtful significance. In patients with testicular feminization, adrenal tumors, and masculinizing ovarian disorders, the TS concentration in plasma from spermatic, adrenal and ovarian veins, respectively, suggested that TS is secreted by the testes, adrenal tumor and ovaries of these subjects.
