Hypertension: Implications for anesthetic management

Abstract

The pathophysiology of hypertension and recently published information on hypertension as a risk factor for adverse perioperative outcome are reviewed. Advances in the presurgical management of the hypertensive patient are discussed and the American Heart Association guidelines for the perioperative cardiovascular evaluation of the noncardiac surgery patient are covered.
