Abstract
Genetics sets the groundwork for the predisposition to autoimmune thyroid disease, and in certain individuals, such as the juveniles presented here, very little impetus is needed to push normal immune reactions to autoimmune disease. However, in individuals who inherit only a few of these traits, the accumulation of many developmental and environmental insults may promote the development of disease.
