Abstract

Many studies have shown that there are cost-effective alternatives to 24-hr hospital care. The new era of medical economics emphasizes prospective payment and alternative delivery systems. This provides new opportunities for psychiatric patients to receive appropriate care outside the traditional inpatient context.
