The medical director should have four major areas of responsibility: to help define the scope and characteristics of the services provided at each level of care; to share in developing standards of care for each discipline, such as nursing and rehabilitation; to help insure quality controls; to assume specific responsibility for overall management and delivery of patient care services, by agreement with the administrator.
