Abstract

is to prepare physicians to serve as medical directors and to upgrade the skills and knowledge of those who now serve in such posts. The medical director should have four major areas of responsibility: to help define the scope and characteristics of the services provided at each level of care; to share in developing standards of care for each discipline, such as nursing and rehabilitation; to help insure quality controls; to assume specific responsibility for overall management and delivery of patient care services, by agreement with the administrator.
