Abstract

Children with mental health issues may return to the ED simply because outpatient care is unavailable or because an evaluation is required by the school. To improve care: Tell parents which community resource to call first. Make a follow-up appointment while the patient is in the ED. Designate interested ED nurses as the "go to" resource.
