Abstract
The communal, spiritual narrative of my extended family shaped my identity as a person. My university education and training in academic medicine changed me. In exchange for the practical training I gained, I have become pathologically detached. This detachment is my spiritual exile as a doctor. Now I am searching for a place to belong where I can live and work as a whole person - body, mind, and spirit.
