Abstract

This case illustrates the need for aggressive diagnosis and treatment of eosinophilic complications such as myocarditis and pericardial tamponade. The use of leukotriene antagonists, which have been proven to be clinically effective for asthma, should be accompanied by careful monitoring for eosinophil-associated adverse events, even though their exact relationship remains to be elucidated. The acute and long-term evaluation of this patient has further illustrated some aspects of eosinophil biology and their clinical implications.
